John ‘Fitzy’ M. Fitzharris

He was born on May 21, 1951 in Escanaba, son to James and Harriet (Rask) Fitzharris. John was a lifelong resident of Escanaba, graduating from Holy Name High School in 1970. He continued his education at Central Michigan University.

John was employed with Escan Corporation for 11 years until his retirement.

He was a quiet man who lived a simple life. Fitzy loved being with his poker group of friends and spending time at Cat Man Do’s. He was an avid sports fan who cheered on the U of M Wolverines, Atlanta Braves, and Detroit Tigers. He had a passion for history and enjoyed studying about the Civil War.

Among survivors are his sisters, Pat (Bert) Newman of Evergreen, Colo. and Kerry Fitzharris of Boise, Idaho; sister-in-law, Liz Fitzharris of Escanaba; nephews and nieces, Kevin Fitzharris, Christopher Carson, Jessica Newman Brown, and Karensa Morgan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Fitzharris.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 28 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba, MI 49829. An opportunity for friends and family to share memories will conclude the visitation hours at 4 p.m.
