Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Nicholas
GLADSTONE — Elizabeth “Betty” Nicholas, age 96, of Gladstone passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Betty was born October 12, 1926 in Escanaba, the daughter of Henry and Alma (Aubin) Grenier. She was united in marriage to Robert Nicholas on May 5, 1943 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba. She worked at Pee Wee Gabrielson’s grocery store in the Buckeye for many years and the Eaton Corporation until she retired. Betty was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a charter member of the Alano Club in Gladstone and enjoyed bowling, the casino, traveling and wintering in Arizona and Mississippi. Most importantly she took pride in her family extending to five generations this year.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Dolores (Dale) DeLisle and Barbara (Roger) Gabriel; her son, Robert (Candy) Nicholas; daughter-in-law, Caren Nicholas; seven grandchildren, Lisa (John) Komblevicz, Bob (Glenda) DeLisle, Karen (John) Leonardi, Todd Nicholas, Amy Nicholas, Kelley Gabriel, Joe (Kate) Gabriel, Matt Nicholas, Carrie (Brandon) Gerlikowski and Andy (Lynn) Nicholas; 14 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, her sister, Mary Ann Moreau, numerous nieces and nephews and many cherished and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her son, Brian, her parents, sisters, Eva (Clyde) Atkinson and Mary Lou (Gerald) Guenette and brothers, Tony (Gen) Grenier, Francis (Audrey) Grenier, Robert (Joan) Grenier, Raymond (Josie) Grenier and Lawrence (Dympa) Grenier.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 20 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 5 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church with Fr. Brandon Yanni officiating. A luncheon will follow in the Knights of Columbus Hall. Betty will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery.
The Nicholas family would like to thank the staff at Lakeview Assisted Living and the exceptional care at St. Francis Hospital, especially Dr. Casey and RN Jamie. They also respectfully request that memorials in Betty’s name be directed to All Saints Catholic Church or the Delta Alano Club in Gladstone.
