Ione McGeehan

ESCANABA — Ione was born September 30, 1941 in Escanaba, Michigan and received her wings and journeyed to her rightful place in heaven on Monday, August 14, 2023.

Ione was the most precious, kind, and selfless woman you could know, she never met a stranger and fulfilled a great purpose while here on earth. Ione’s kind and caring ways, and loving heart touched more people than we will ever know.

Ione was raised in Escanaba with her siblings Tom, Marlene, and Verlynn. After graduating high school from Holy Name Catholic School, her caring nature took her to Leavittsburg, Ohio where she cared for her grandmother, then on to Melbourne, Florida. Many years and memories later, she decided to move back to her hometown of Escanaba to be closer to her sisters. After retiring, and with a love for children, she returned to Holy Name Catholic School as a foster grandparent where she also met fellow foster grandparent, Richard Gaffney. Richard became a very dear friend for her and she really enjoyed their drives looking at deer, and ice cream treats eaten at Ludington Park.

Ione is survived by her children, eldest Tom from Sedro Woolley, Washington, Michelle from Palm Bay, Florida, Julie from Norway, Michigan, and Jeff from Leavittsburg, Ohio. They were all by her side in her last few days. Julie and Michelle were there when she went home with the Lord. Ione also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and her beloved dogs, Allie and Sam.

Ione loved spending time with family and friends, the outdoors, puzzles, crafts, music, and movies!

We love you and miss you already. We are celebrating with Jesus and the angels that you are in your forever home, with a brand new vessel and an indescribable new view! We’ll see you again soon enough!

Per Ione’s wishes no formal services will be held.

Ione’s family would like to thank the Emergency Department at Marshfield Dickinson Hospital in Iron Mountain, the Guardian Life Flight crew, the staff at St. Mary’s hospital ICU, and her “favorite” doctor, Dr. Simil Gala cardiologist in Green Bay, as well as Unity Hospice, and the Altrusa House.
