Terry French

IRON MOUNTAIN — Terry French, age 76, of Escanaba, passed away Monday, June 26, 2023 at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, Mich. with his family by his side. He was born on November 19, 1946 in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of Carl and Lucille (Osborn) French. Terry was raised in Jackson, MI where he graduated from high school in 1964. He went on to attend Jackson Community College and later enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Terry served his country from 1966 until he was honorably discharged in 1968. He married the former Dianna Lee Zimmerman on November 15, 1979 in Rochester, Mich. Together, the couple shared 43 years of marriage. Terry started his working career in purchasing, transportation, and materials control positions for Rochester Manufacturing Company in Rochester, Mich. and later worked as an assistant materials control manager and traffic coordinator for Chef Pierre Frozen Foods, which later became Sara Lee Bakery in Forest, MS and Traverse City, Mich. He then was employed by United Foods Corporation – Pictsweet Frozen Foods in Bells, Tenn. as the warehouse manager and consultant until his retirement in 2002. Following retirement, he and Dianna moved to Escanaba into their home on the Ford River. Terry was an avid golfer and a member of the Senior League at the Highland Golf Course, loved horseracing and all kinds of sports, and often looked forward to his travel adventures, especially trips to Las Vegas. He loved cutting and stacking firewood in preparation for winter, and found joy in cutting his grass and maintaining his property with his John Deere.

Terry is survived by his wife, Dianna Lee French of Escanaba; sisters-in-law, Mary (Al) Raffaele of Florida, and Nancy (Rick) Wahl of Escanaba; brothers-in-law, Ladd (Deb) Zimmerman of Florida, Joseph Zimmerman of Marquette, Tim Zimmerman of Mequon, Wis., and Joel Beamish of Alma, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his biological father, John Terpstra; brother, Ray French; in-laws, Nels and Louise Ebbesen; and nephews, Chris Wahl and Darren Pickersgill.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 14, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Terry will follow at 2:30 p.m. Friday with Mr. David Rood officiating. A reception will be held at the conclusion of the services. Burial will take place in South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the U.P. Honor Flight or the Delta County Cancer Alliance.
