STONINGTON -- Robert "Bob" William Robinson, 73, most recently living his best life on a little piece of paradise on Stonington Peninsula in Michigan's U.P., passed away unexpectedly but peacefully of natural causes on Monday, July 24, 2023 while sitting in his favorite chair with his beloved dog Abbey at his feet.
Bob's parents, Lola (Bale) and William Henry Robinson met, fell in love, and married in Australia, while William "Hank" was serving in the Pacific during World War II. After their marriage, Lola joined ships full of Australian war brides, leaving everything she knew to start a new life in the States. Hank and Lola settled in Dearborn, Michigan, where Bob and his brother Norm were born and raised. Bob's family had many worldly adventures traveling back to Australia to visit Lola's family and even lived in Cuba for a few years when he was young.
Bob graduated from Dearborn High in 1968 and went on to Michigan State where he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Bob met his first wife, Kathleen Clare Cullen while they were both lifeguarding at Camp Dearborn. They were together for almost 30 years living most of that time in Reedsburg, Wisconsin and the later part of their life together in Petoskey, Michigan.
Bob was a super hard-working man who loved "critters" of all kinds. He was a partner in his own large animal veterinary clinic for a large part of his life in Reedsburg, Wis., and spent the latter part of his career working with some wonderful people at the State of Michigan's Department of Agriculture.
When Bob wasn't working, he loved coaching hockey, being in the water, watching live music, spending time with his family, friends, and critters outdoors, and traveling to visit friends and family. Bob loved and was very proud of all of his children and grandchildren and always encouraged them to bring their best selves to the world. He believed strongly and spoke often about social justice and the inherent value of all of God's creations.
Bob is survived by his children, Molly (John) Zuehlke of Platteville, Wis., Ben (Tricia) Robinson of Petoskey, Mich., Will (Terra) Robinson of Green Bay, Vlad Robinson of Green Bay, Wis., and Katea Robinson of Boyne City, Mich.; and grandchildren, Kohler, Tate, Jack, Katie, Maria, Ben Jr., Lola, George, and Nora; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends, and loved ones.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Norm; and his first wife Kathleen Cullen Robinson.
A celebration of Bob's life will take place at a later date near Petoskey, Mich.
