Harold ‘Buzz’ Bussineau
PORTLAND, Ore. — Harold “Buzz” Bussineau, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 2, 2023. He was surrounded by his entire family and close friends, and those in spirit.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Legaspi Bussineau; her children, Diana (Rick), Carlos and Edgar; and grandsons, Chris and Ryan. He is also survived by his three daughters, Michele (Ken), Kelly, and Lori, and their deceased mother, Judie Bussineau; and granddaughter, Lindsey (Thomas).
Born to parents, Henry and Rose Bussineau, Buzz grew up in a bustling home as one of eight children in Escanaba, Mich. He came to Portland as a young man, where he was one of the first light rail operators when it opened in 1986. All while raising his own family of three daughters with wife Judie, he was a gun slinger (once upon a time), softball coach, cunning tennis player, pool shark, skilled wood worker, driving teacher, and the kind of father who always made life an adventure.
Buzz was honored to be a “Yooper” of Upper Michigan, from where he learned the value of hard work and spirituality, and perfected his goulash and pasty recipes. And until the end, he remained dedicated to both “Yooper” life and the Catholic faith.
When he married Sylvia in 2014, his family tree grew to become part of the Legaspi Family. He was met with a warm welcome and open arms, and was so grateful to have the love, kinship and lasting memories of all of them. His kindhearted spirit made him a friend to all. He was blessed to have been loved by three families, in Portland, Los Angeles and Escanaba.
We dearly miss him but have comfort knowing that he is with loved ones he once lost and will be there to welcome the next.
Please join us for a Celebration of his life on Saturday, July 29 at the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church (2408 SE 16th Ave, Portland, OR 97214), Carvlin Hall, from 2 to 4 p.m. They hold mass on Saturdays at 4 p.m. for anyone who would like to attend following the celebration.
