Scott Michael Gucky

MARQUETTE — Scott Michael Gucky, 52, formerly of Hyde, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, following a courageous five-year battle with a rare brain disease.

He was born on February 16, 1971 in Escanaba, son to John W. and Arlene G. (Wellman) Gucky. Scott graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1989.

Scott proudly served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1992. He served during Desert Storm and was awarded the South West Asia Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Markman Marksmanship Badge Rifle, Marksman Marksmanship Badge Grenade, Army Lapel Button, and Kuwait Liberation Medal.

Over the years, he was employed with John U.S. Service, Bay Area Pool & Spa, Stenberg Bros., and was a welder at Marinette Marine until his health declined.

Scott was one who lived his life to the fullest. He loved hunting, fishing, and enjoyed working on anything with an engine. He also had a passion for fitness and body building. He built himself up to 275 pounds and was bench pressing 500 pounds just before his illness crept up on him.

Among survivors are his parents, John and Arlene Gucky of Escanaba; sister, Julie A. (Wally) Viau of Escanaba, who stood by him like a giant oak tree, never faltering in the midst of the many storms that he endured; nephew, Hunter Viau; niece, Erica Viau; longtime significant other, Jamie Richardson; and many other loving uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Gucky, Joan Gucky McKenzie, and Ardee and Mary Wellman.

In keeping with Scott’s wishes, a celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family of Scott Gucky would like to thank everyone at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette for the exceptional care, concern, and compassion they shared with Scott during the difficult times. Their kindness and sincerity will always be remembered. We would also like to thank Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice for the gentle care they provided while keeping Scott comfortable during his time of need. Lastly their kindness and thoughts will always be remembered., we would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who was a part of Scott’s life, before and after his illness.
