Barbara Jean (Robinette) Coolman

GLADSTONE — Barbara Jean (Robinette) Coolman, age 61, of Gladstone passed away Monday, June 19, 2023 at her home after a battle with cancer. Barb was born February 22, 1962, to the late Robert and Nancy (Lawrence) Robinette. She graduated from Bark River High School in 1980.

Barb’s work career centered around caring for others, initially with her daycare of many years. She eventually transitioned to adult and senior care. She was known by all as patient and loving, and always went beyond what her duties called for. She had a big heart and her love and concern for those she cared for was abundant. Barbara was truly a gift to her profession. Barb enjoyed traveling with her large family and her many friends. She always thought of others before herself, even while gravely ill, Barb’s concern was that she was creating more work for the doctors and nurses.

Barb particularly enjoyed spending time at the casino playing Bingo and dancing with her husband, Gary, to the many bands. Attending concerts was one of her favorite pastimes. She liked to bake and her “chewy” bars will be greatly missed at family gatherings. Barb will also be remembered for her years as cheerleading advisor for Bark River Harris Junior High School.

Barb is survived by her husband, Gary, and sons Chad (Jill) Cappaert of Covington, Kentucky and Cody Cappeart of Powers, as well as two grandchildren, Sydney and Ryan. Barb was the youngest of eight siblings, Diane (Dave) Cannon, Robert (Jane) Robinette Jr., Janice (Lee) Robitaille, Luanne (Nick) Knauf, John (Maryjo) Robinette, Cheryl (Daniel) Pach and Paul (Cindy) Robinette, 24 nieces and nephews and 49 great-nieces and nephews, soon to be 50.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Nancy (Lawrence) Robinette.

The family will receive friends at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home, 400 S. 10th Street, Escanaba on Wednesday June 28, from 3 to 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with Fr. Rick Courier officiating. Inurnment will follow services in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Schaffer.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family.

A memorial in Barb’s name will be established at a later date.
