Charles Niel ‘Chuck’ ‘Buddy’ Krieg

ESCANABA — Charles Niel “Chuck” “Buddy” Krieg, 84, of Escanaba, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at his home following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

He was born on November 14, 1938, in Birch, Mich., son of Charles H. and Edith (Lillgiberg) Krieg. Chuck was raised in Marquette and graduated from John D. Pierce High School. He then continued his education at Northern Michigan University.

Chuck honorably served in the U.S. Army and was trained as a medical specialist.

On August 18, 1996, Chuck married Alana Futris in Trenary, Mich.

He was a former school teacher and was an accomplished carpenter who was successful at renovating homes. He retired in 2001.

Chuck enjoyed singing, reading, and watching football.

Survivors include his wife, Alana Krieg of Escanaba; sons, Scott Olaf (Kristina) Krieg and Joshua Charles (Alyssa) Quarfoot; stepson, Thomas John (Sheri) Futris; stepdaughter, Nicole Catherine (Mike) Futris; grandchildren, Aaron (Karleigh) Krieg, Christopher Krieg, Emily (Christopher) Charbonneau, and Matthew (Ashley) Krieg; step-grandchildren, Britney (Jesse) Tarash, Kaelee Gagnon, Marki (Zac) Gardenier, Jason (Emily) Futris, Tyler Futris, Chad Futris, Niko Johnson, and Arianna Futris; siblings, James Krieg, Daniel Krieg, Ron (Ellen) Krieg, Ruth (Don) Johnson, Joan Petersen, and William (Judy) Krieg; mother-in-law, Irene Pomeroy; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Marvel Pomeroy, Phyllis Pomeroy, Steven (Libby) Pomeroy, Keith (Cindy) Pomeroy, Greg (Linda) Pomeroy, and Carol (Mark) Pomeroy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Dean Charles Krieg and Nathan Pollard; sister, Judy (Don) Trost; brother, Richard “Red” (Pauline) Krieg; and brothers-and-sister-in-law, Eugene Peterson, Edward Pomeroy, and Sylvia Krieg.

Chuck fought his cancer, rarely complained, and was always grateful for his caregivers. His belief in Jesus is what carried him through the rough times. A special thank you to OSF Hospice and Home Care for the best of care and for always being close-by when needed.

In keeping with Chuck’s wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will take place in Rapid River Cemetery.
