William ‘Bill’ Beveridge

ESCANABA — William “Bill” Beveridge, age 90, of Escanaba passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 23, 2023.
Bill was born August 29, 1932 in Isabella, Michigan, the son of William and Estelle (McLeod) Beveridge. He was raised in Gladstone and graduated from Gladstone High School. He was united in marriage to Constance “Connie” Hart on December 1, 1951 at the All Saints Church in Gladstone. He became a police officer for the City of Escanaba in 1956. He worked for 36 years, retiring as captain in 1992. Following retirement, Bill and Connie spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they could follow the Chicago Cubs during spring training. Bill was a member of the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish. He loved spending time with his family, going to camp, telling “cop” stories and reliving his years as a police officer. He looked forward to his Wednesday lunches at the Family Inn with his retired law enforcement friends and also enjoyed attending and supporting Eskymo sporting events.
Bill is survived by his children, Shirley Webber, Pat (Bob) LaFave, Vicky (Dave) Axford, Mike (Karin) Beveridge and Wendy Swille, all of Escanaba, and Mark (Carol) Beveridge of New Berlin, Wis.; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one on the way; three great-great grandchildren; his sisters, Joan Jacobsen, Audrey (Ray) Gonsowski, Mary (Mark) Elder and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie, parents, brother, Prentiss, sister, Lynn, two sons-in-law and twin great-grandsons, Elijah and Ethan Hires.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 2 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Escanaba Public Safety will conduct a “Final Call Out” at 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Bill will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
