ESCANABA -- Naomi R. (Flynn) Morin passed away December 19, 2022, at the age of 96. She was born on the family farm in Harris, Mich. on February 7, 1926, to Edward and Margaret (Deloughary) Flynn.
After graduating from Bark River-Harris High School in 1944, Naomi completed business studies at Cloverland College in Escanaba and was employed by Hansen & Jensen Oil Company.
On July 20, 1948, Naomi married Ray Morin at St. George's Church in Bark River. Ray was employed in management with National Food Stores in Escanaba, Iron Mountain, and Marquette. In 1957, Ray and Naomi purchased a grocery store in Rapid River, and renamed it "Ray's Market." They sold the store in 1987 when they retired. Ray and Naomi had three children, William, Dale, and Shelly. They were later blessed with four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Naomi and Ray's faith was of the utmost importance to them. They were both very active in St. Charles Borromeo Church for decades, and in the later years, they transferred to St. Anne's in Escanaba. She was a member of the Rapid River American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed bowling, dartball, playing piano, golf, and knitting. Naomi was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and caregiver who loved God, her family, and her friends.
Upon retirement, Ray and Naomi pursued a new mission assisting their daughter Shelly (and son-in-law) in Green Bay for ten years as MS shortened her life. They provided personal care and watched over their two grandchildren. This was truly a labor of love for the family. During this time period, they developed many Green Bay friends.
After Shelly's death, they returned full time to Rapid River. They eventually sold their home and moved to West Highland in Escanaba. In 2004 Ray's health greatly deteriorated; he moved to Christian Park and later to Bishop Noa. Naomi faithfully trekked through all types of weather to be with Ray. Upon his death in 2010, she continued to volunteer at Bishop Noa. Eventually, her health declined and she moved to Bishop Noa A.L. at the age of 95. She lived a very long, happy, healthy, and faith-filled life.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Edward and Margaret Flynn; husband, Raymond; daughter, Michele; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Morin; and her many siblings.
Naomi is survived by her son, William (Kathy); son, Dale; son-in-law, David Lundberg (Cheryl); her grandchildren, Angela (Chris) Lopac, Timothy (Sarah), Kathryn Morin, and Benjamin; great-grandchildren, Odin, Declan, Lorelei, Cordelia, Emmaline, Samuel, Augustine, and Lucy. Naomi is also survived by a large number of relatives and friends, many life-long.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 6 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne's Church in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.
Burial will take place in the Bark River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family and a memorial in Naomi's name will be established at a later date.
