GLADSTONE — David John Closs, age 61, went to his eternal home peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side on Monday, February 27, 2023, This following many years spent battling health issues including a recent three-year fight with cancer.
David was born on 6/26/1961 in Youngstown, Ohio to Clarence and Marilyn (Kurth) Closs Jr. and was the youngest of three children. The Closs family moved to Upper Michigan in 1967, where David grew up. He always had a thirst for life and lived a wild and adventurous youth with his siblings and cousins, enjoying hunting, fishing, motor sports, and especially spending time at the family camp and cottage. He prided himself in all that he had learned from his father in finished carpentry and enjoyed working by his side on many projects including remodeling their family home.
After being hospitalized for a long time following a life changing motorcycle accident at age 16, David finished his GED and eventually went on to complete some technical schooling in trades where he excelled as a copier/printer repair specialist and salesman. David was a dedicated and meticulous worker; never giving less than his absolute best no matter the task. He gained experience in his trade working for several local companies leading up to the start of his own business, Lake Superior Business Machines, which he owned with his wife for 21 years before retiring in 2021. At which time he and his wife purchased their first home and moved to Gladstone, Michigan.
Throughout his life David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is remembered as a faithful and loving husband, a proud and dedicated father, a mentor and confidant to many, and a servant of God. David was a born-again Christian who impacted many with his love for God and through the sharing of his powerful testimony. For many years David was an active member of New Life Assembly of God church in Escanaba, where he and his wife started a local chapter of Celebrate Recovery, which they lead for several years.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Bonnie (Fish) Closs; daughter, Desiree Lindholm; stepdaughters, Jessica (Lawrence) Harris and Sherri (Randy) Erickson and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; mother, Marilyn (Kurth) Closs; sister, Kathy (Pat) Feldhusen; nephew, Ed Closs Jr.; nieces, Heather (Jeff) Grimes, Becky (Kyle) Marcoe, and Sandy (Cory) Allen; in addition to 10 great-nephews and nieces; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; longtime friends, Roger (Donna) Orzel, Doug (Kim) Nord, Mike (Angie) Wellnitz; Pastor Bob (Diane) Derheim and his Celebrate Recovery and A.A. family.
