Francis R. Bolm

ESCANABA — Francis R. Bolm, age 92, formerly of Escanaba, passed away Monday morning, October 24, 2022 at Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming. He was born on May 6, 1930 in Escanaba, the son of Arthur Burger and Edith Caroline (Peterson) Bolm. Francis was raised and attended school in Escanaba, and was a graduate of Escanaba High School. He went on to further his education at Bay de Noc Community College to study accounting. Francis married the former (Anna) Linnea Magnuson on December 31, 1949 at Central United Methodist Church in Escanaba and she preceded him in death on April 3, 2015. Together, the couple shared nearly 65 years of marriage and raised 5 children. Francis worked for Bracket Chevrolet as an accountant in Escanaba for a few years before beginning his long-time employment with Mead Paper Company. He started in 1950 at Mead in the accounting division as a Cost Analyst and worked until his retirement in 1990. During this time, he also was greatly involved with Central United Methodist Church in Escanaba, serving as the superintendent of Sunday School and on the Commission of Education Committee. In 1997, Francis and Linnea moved from their home in Ford River to Casa Grande, AZ, making their permanent home at Sunscape Estates. For 17 years, the couple enjoyed their retirement in Casa Grande and immersed themselves into the Christian Community at Sunscape Christian Fellowship at Sunscape Estates where Francis was Chair of the Steering Committee. He worked part-time at Oasis Golf Course across the street from Sunscape, taking reservations in the pro shop and worked as the assistant to the manager at Sunscape Estates taking care of the accounting, retiring in 2013. In October of 2020, Francis returned to the Upper Peninsula in Marquette, Mich. and resided with his son, John, at his home on Lake Independence near Big Bay.

Francis is survived by his children, James R. Bolm of Seattle, Wash., Robert “Bob” J. (Lori) Bolm of Gladstone, Mich., John E. Bolm of Marquette, Mich., Jerry A. (Lori) Bolm of Anson, Texas; and Teresa L. (Paul) Glessner of Muskego, Wis.; grandchildren, Andre, Brent, Tamara, Brian, Katlin, Shawn, Jamie, Ashley, Paige, Karl, and Wendy; many great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edith Bolm; his wife, Linnea Bolm; and brother, Wallace (Lora) Bolm.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, November 10, at Central United Methodist Church in Escanaba. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Brian Oberg officiating. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be shared with Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay, MI or Central United Methodist Church in Escanaba.
