Gloria J. ‘Jean’ Anderson

DAYTON, Ohio — Gloria J. “Jean” Anderson, 74, formerly of Escanaba, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2022 in Dayton, Ohio where she has lived for the past year. Jean was born in Newberry, Mich. on April 27, 1948. She was raised by her great-grandmother in Shingletown, Mich. where she graduated from high school. Jean worked as a waitress and then cook for many years. She finished her career as a chef for Elmer’s restaurant.

Jean enjoyed league bowling with the girls. She loved her family, friends, and her dog. She enjoyed outdoors, traveling, camping, shopping, cooking, and baking. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. For her it was all about family, friends, food, and of course Lions football.

She married Leo Krause on December 20, 1981. At which time she moved to Bark River to her home on the lake. She was preceded in death by her husband Leo in 1991. She married Dean Anderson June 18, 1994 and he preceded her in death in 2011.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Almina Summers Hollingsworth; her father, Chester E. Brown Sr.; brothers, Larry J Brown and Gregory D Brown; and stepson, Greggory Anderson.

She is survived by stepchildren, Rebecca S Ferguson (Gregg) of Englewood, Ohio, Donna Caron of Gladstone, Mich. and Karl Krause (Andrea) of Sao Paulo, Brazil.; grandchildren, Ambrosia Ferguson, Jonathan Ferguson, Andrew Anderson (Kristi), Ashlee Anderson, and Preston Caron.

Jean’s surviving siblings are Michael Ray Brown and Linda Kay Eimmerman (Bill) of Manistique, Mich., Chester Edward Brown Jr. of Munising, Mich., Robin Ran’ea Stack (Jerry) of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Kevin Darwin Brown of Manistique, Mich., and a host of nieces and nephews.

There was a Celebration of Life on September 24 at Cypress Pointe Clubhouse where she lived in Englewood. It was attended by family and friends. She was cremated and will be buried at sea on October 2 at sunrise with her husband, Leo Krause.
