Morgan R. Tatrow

GARDEN — Morgan R. Tatrow, age 83, passed away July 3, 2022 at Schoolcraft Medical Facility in Manistique, Michigan.

He was born in Garden, Michigan and the family moved to Muskegon when he was a child. Morgan graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School and graduated from Western Michigan University where he earned a teaching degree.

Morgan spent his teaching career at Twin Lake Elementary School and retired from the Reeths-Puffer school system after over 30-plus years. He also taught several after school activities such as hunting, boating, and snowmobile safety. He was also a Little League baseball coach and drivers training instructor.

Morgan was also involved with several community activities while he lived in Muskegon. He was elected to the Orchard View School Board, Muskegon Township Board and was a long-time volunteer fire fighter with the Muskegon Township Fire Department from 1972 – 1995.

After retiring from teaching, he moved back to Garden where he was elected as supervisor of Garden Township and was instrumental in expanding the fire department resources to the Garden Peninsula. He served on the fire department in Garden from 1997 – 2014.

Morgan enjoyed golfing, deer hunting at the family hunting camp in the U.P., playing cribbage and card games, watching sports and spending time with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Della (Farley) Tatrow; sister, Crystal (Sissy); and mother of his children, Christine (Tutlis) Kramer.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, DeAnna (Ward Stelmach) Tatrow; daughter, Cynthia (Doug) Hevel; son, Mark (Janice) Tatrow; grandchildren, Amanda (Scott) Garabedian, Abigayle Gabriel, Adam Marshall, Kristine Rupe, Brian Tatrow and Jennifer (Sam) Anderson; 11 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Gail Tatrow.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 15, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden, Mich. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at noon with Fr. John Essel officiating. Burial will take place at New Garden Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Morgan’s name may be sent to the Garden Historical Society, the Garden Township Fire Department, or to the Beacon House, 200 S. 7th St, Marquette, MI 49855, or to a charity of choice.
