Susan E. ‘Sue’ Shepich
ESCANABA — Susan E. “Sue” Shepich, 77, formerly of Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022, in Kenosha, Wis. after a short battle with cancer.
She was born on May 26, 1944 in Marquette, the daughter of Earl and Helen (Wentala) Kehoe. Sue was raised in Grafton, Wis. and graduated from Grafton High School in 1962. She went on to attend Deaconess Nursing School in Milwaukee, Wis., earning her RN.
On September 21, 1969, she married Robert “Bob” Shepich in Escanaba and together they shared 49 years of marriage. Bob preceded her in death on January 4, 2018.
Sue began her nursing career at Mt. Saini Hospital in Milwaukee. After relocating to Escanaba in 1969, she began her longtime employment with OSF St. Francis Hospital, working in several capacities over the years as an intensive care nurse, nursing manager, and diabetic educator until her retirement in 1997.
She was an avid and talented gardener who was previously involved in the Advanced Master Gardener Program through MSU and was the co-founder of the Delta County Master Gardener Association. She spent a lot of time volunteering for the OSF Serenity Gardens and several other community gardening projects.
Sue loved playing bridge with several area groups including the Marathon Bridge Club and the Hospital Bridge Club. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends. Sue was a member of the OSF Auxiliary.
Among survivors are her children, Kristan (Don) Cameron of Antioch, Ill., Amy (John) Stevenson of Escanaba, and John (Jennie) Shepich of Escanaba; grandchildren, Donald “DJ” Cameron, Colin Cameron, Brennan Cameron, and Javon Stevenson; one step-grandson, John Stevenson III; and brothers, Jim (Kathy) Kehoe of Grafton, Wis. and Chuck (Mary) Kehoe of Santa Fe, N.M.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Helen Kehoe; husband, Bob Shepich; infant daughter, Jacqueline Shepich; and brother, Tom Kehoe.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 12 from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba. Immediately following the visitation, the Upper Peninsula Nurses Honor Guard will pay tribute to Sue. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.
