Anne A. Kahl

ESCANABA — Anne A. Kahl, 89, formerly of Escanaba, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 14, 2021 at Murray’s Country View AFC in Gladstone.

She was born on January 20, 1932 in Ensign, the daughter of Antone and Emilia Mauhar. Anne was raised in Ensign and graduated from Rapid River High School with the class of 1951.

On November 7, 1953, Anne married Howard Kahl in Rapid River. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1985.

Anne was employed at Christian Park Heathcare Center for 22 years as a CNA, retiring in 1997. Following her retirement from Christian Park, she worked at the Best Western in Escanaba for 10 years.

She enjoyed gardening, working on all kinds of puzzles including jigsaw and crossword, reading good books, painting around her house, and going out to eat. Anne spent many fun times with her best friend, Geneva Jackson traveling on bus tours, going on cruises, and Friday night fish frys. She also enjoyed coffee with the girls and shopping while out of town was always a highlight of her trips. She was a member of AARP and the Teamsters Union.

Anne is survived by her children, John (Renee) Kahl of Escanaba, Kim Gylock of Escanaba, and Brenda (Bill) Schilz of Vulcan; eight grandchildren, John (Caresse) Kahl, Stacy (Luke) Simon, Chelsea (Larry) Webb, Casey Kahl, Chris Gylock, Cory (Paige) Gylock, Amy (Korey) Maki, Dr. Greg (Alex) Schilz; nine great-grandchildren, Logan and Madison Kahl, Tamara Simon, Shalie, Kadence, Bryson, and Maxell Poupor, Aria Gylock and Quincey Schilz; sisters-in-law, Ann Mauhar and Jill Sheedlo; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Anne was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Chuck Gylock; sisters, Mary Mauhar, Frances Mauhar, Angela Mauhar, and Emily Burch; and brothers, Victor Mauhar and Tony Mauhar.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, July 2 at St. Anne’s Church with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.

Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
