Richard P. ‘Rich’ Johnson

GLADSTONE — Richard P. “Rich” Johnson, 52, of Gladstone, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021 at U.P. Health System – Marquette.

He was born on April 20, 1969 in Escanaba, son of Walter F. and Rosemary A. (Nault) Johnson. Rich was raised in Ford River and graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1987.

On September 10, 2011, Rich married Jamie Thomas in the backyard of their home in Gladstone.

Rich was employed with Pomp’s Tire Service for 24 years before starting his career with Riverside Chevrolet. He worked in sales for a short time before becoming the finance manager.

Rich was an avid Green Bay Packer and Minnesota Golden Gopher fan. He enjoyed the Bark River Off Road Races which he was a co-driver, sharing that role with fellow racer and friend, Scott Beauchamp. Rich loved taking weekend pontoon boating trips to Eagle River and many summer getaways to Maine. Spending time at Camp Sea Moor, having bon fires in the back yard with friends and family, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family were among some of Rich’s favorite past times.

Rich loved being a dad to Katie, Noah and Danny and cherished being a “papa” to his granddaughter, Lily.

He was a member of the Well’s Lion’s Club.

Among survivors are his wife, Jamie of Gladstone; children, Katie (Travis) Wangerin of Wallace, Noah Johnson of Escanaba and Danny Larson of Gladstone; granddaughter, Lily Larson of Green Bay; mother, Rosemary Johnson of Escanaba; siblings, Ann (Steve) Rouse of Bark River, Michael (Tammy) Johnson of Green Bay and Brian Johnson of Escanaba; nieces and nephews, Mark, Greg, Jennifer, Heidi, Chloe, and Ike. He is also survived by his In-Laws, Carol Thomas of Escanaba and Mike (Laura) Thomas of Gladstone, brother-in-law, Ed (Carrie) Thomas of Numica, MI; uncles, Tom Thomas and Wayne (Carol) Nault; aunts, Shirley Johnson, Eileen (Mike) Hayward and Jeanie Lusardi; close family friend, Marlene McGovern; and many cousins and other close friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by uncles, Bob, Jim and Ray; aunts, Blanche and Arlene; and special friends, Eddie DeGrand and Bob Rae.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ben Rivard officiating.

Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family and a memorial will be established at a later date.
