David L. Stenberg
David L. Stenberg
YUMA, Ariz. — David Stenberg age 70 passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife Marcy by his side on Thursday, September 2, 2021.
David had been in declining health for the past number of years. David was born in August 1951 in Escanaba, Mich. to Lennard and Gladys (Porath) Stenberg. He attended Schaffer and Bark River-Harris Schools and was a long time resident of the Bark River area.
At the age of 13 his life changed forever as the result of a tragic diving accident. He became a quadriplegic for the remainder of his life. A few years later, during a short stay at Pine Crest Medical Care Facility in Powers, Mich. he met his future wife Marcy Picard. They were married August 23, 1973. Marcy was as devoted and loyal a wife as possible and took extremely good care of David through the years. They recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary shortly before his death.
Dave and Marcy were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1974 and were active members of the Escanaba Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years until the U.P. winters became too difficult for them and they made the decision to move where it was warmer to Yuma, Ariz. where they got relief from the cold and snow. For the past 29 years they were active members of the Riverview Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Yuma, Ariz.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, David and Marcy enjoyed working together in the Bible education work focusing on the cart public witnessing, as well as using the telephone in their witnessing activity. David especially enjoyed sharing his hope regarding the great blessings that God’s Kingdom would bring to the human family. The hope of him being restored physically, able to walk, even run was very real to him. This hope, along with all the other promises of what God’s Kingdom would do helped him to maintain a strong, positive outlook on life. One of David’s favorite scriptures that brought him great comfort is found in the Bible at Psalms 49:15 which states: “GOD WILL REDEEM ME FROM THE POWER OF THE GRAVE, FOR HE WILL TAKE HOLD OF ME.” He knew that if and when he died he would only be sleeping, awaiting the time when Jehovah God by means of his appointed Son, Jesus Christ, would awaken him from death’s sleep with the prospect of unending life here on a restored, paradise earth.
Survivors include his loving, devoted wife, Marcy (Picard) Stenberg of Yuma, Ariz.; mother, Gladys Stenberg of Powers, Mich.; brothers, Carl (Therese) Stenberg, Frank (Janice) Stenberg, Glenn (Susan) Stenberg; sister, Sharilyn (Jerry) Glasure all of Bark River; as well as many nieces, nephews, as well as many, many friends.
David was predeceased in death by his father, Lennard; and nephew, Kevin Stenberg; his mother-in-law, Clara Picard; his sister-in-law, Fione Chase.
Memorial services took place September 25, 2021, by family friend Tom Legault via Zoom. A message of condolences may be directed to his loving wife Marcy at 1166 South 5th Avenue, Yuma AZ 85364.
