Carol Joyce Marohnic

ESCANABA — Carol Joyce Marohnic, 85, of Escanaba, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 in Bark River, Michigan. She was at the home of her daughter and surrounded by her family.

Carol was born on December 23, 1935 in Gladstone, Michigan, daughter of Percy Leach and Orsley L. (Micheau) Young.

In Gladstone, on June 9, 1952, Carol was united in marriage with Albert E. Marohnic, Sr.

Her first career was working in central supply for OSF St. Francis Hospital. She was later employed as a custodian for Bark River-Harris Schools, where she worked for many years, and retired in 2003.

Carol was an avid bingo player and loved playing cards. She enjoyed swimming, doing puzzles, and dancing. She often volunteered with setup for events hosted by the Bark River Senior Center, and she also enjoyed attending. Carol will always be fondly remembered riding her moped around the community.

She was a member of the Bark River Senior Center and Salem Lutheran Church in Bark River.

Carol is survived by her husband, Albert Marohnic Sr. of Escanaba; children, Albert (Nina) Marohnic Jr. of Escanaba, Bruce Marohnic (Carol) of Gladstone, Diane Marohnic (John) of Bark River, Nancy (Joseph) Richer of Bark River, Dave (Laura) Marohnic of Bark River, Jim Marohnic (Deborah) of Escanaba, and Rob (Theresa) Marohnic of Bark River; 33 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Willette and Shirley (Randy) Nelson; sister-in-law, Diane Leach; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Leach, James “Bud” Leach, George Leach, Dave Leach, and Bob Leach; sister, Sharon Grottoff and brother-in-law, Harold (Moose) Willett; granddaughter, Christine; and best friend, Thelma Ferry.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Bark River. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Stephen Cowen officiating.

A meal in celebration of Carol’s life will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be at Bark River Twp. Cemetery.
