GLADSTONE — Arlene N. Pepin, 84, of Gladstone, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Escanaba on July 22, 1937, the daughter of Cecil and Viola (Seymour) Steede.

Arlene graduated from Escanaba Area High School in 1956 and attended Cloverland College.

On May 16, 1959, Arlene married Gerald “Jerry” Pepin at St. Joseph Church in Escanaba. Together, they shared 62 years of marriage.

Arlene and Jerry spent 20 years in places across the US, including Alabama, Florida, Michigan, and Ohio, and abroad including Germany, Libya, Philippines, and Turkey during Jerry’s time in the military. Once he retired, they moved back to Escanaba and she worked various retail jobs, which included Montgomery Wards, Shoe Loft, and K-Mart. Arlene was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba.

In her free time, Arlene liked crocheting, crafting, playing bingo, and traveling. She taught CCD for several years at K.I. Sawyer in Gwinn and enjoyed wintering in Milton, Fla.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald; children, Gerald III (Teresa) Pepin and Mark Pepin both of Escanaba, and Wayne (Amanda) Pepin of Allendale, Mich.; grandchildren, Abigail, Alexander, Allison, Danielle, Jayden, and Kristina; five great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Steede of Detroit; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Bouffard; and brothers, Gary and Wayne Steede.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 29 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 South 13th St., in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Timothy Ferguson officiating.
