Karen Faith Kuhns (Honeywell)
PAYSANDU, Uruguay — December 1, 1942 — April 1, 2021 “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” – John 11:25, 26
Karen Faith Kuhns (Honeywell) left her earthly home for one that is infinitely better on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the age of 78. Her brief viewing and immediate internment took place on Friday, April 2, 2021, in accordance with local government regulations. She was buried at Cementerio Parque Jardin de Paz [Tr. Garden of Peace Park Cemetery] in Paysandu, Uruguay. Karen was born in Escanaba, Michigan on December 1, 1942. During the early years of her life, Karen heard the Gospel and surrendered her life to Christ. She believed in Christ at age seven and then dedicated her life to His service at age ten soon after which she followed the advice of her missionary uncle to begin serving the Lord right away by taking neighborhood children to church. Karen lived in Michigan until her senior year of high school when her family moved to California where she graduated from Modesto High School in 1961. She then attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri where she studied education. Soon after, she attended Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, Minnesota where she met Roy, who later became her husband. They both transferred to the newly formed Maranatha Baptist Bible College and were part of the first graduating class in 1969. On August 30, 1969, Karen was married to Roy Dean Kuhns in San Francisco, California at Calvary Baptist Church. She and Roy continued serving in local churches while Roy attended San Francisco Baptist Theological Seminary. After their first daughter was born in 1972, they were appointed with Baptist World Mission and served an internship under Dr. Ed Nelson in Denver, Colorado. Upon completion of their pre-field ministry, they departed for the mission field of Uruguay in March of 1975. Roy and Karen first served in the department of Florida and then lived a brief time in the outskirts of Montevideo awaiting the birth of their second daughter in 1976. In August, weeks later, they moved to Paysandu in the interior of the country to plant a church. This is where their son was born in 1979. After Roy passed away in April of 2002, Karen transitioned to Central Missionary Clearinghouse to continue serving in the same ministry under the pastoral leadership of her son-in-law Daniel Rojas. She continued to serve fervently in the capacity in which the Lord allowed her channeling her energies specifically to women, particularly to widows, in Uruguay, Argentina and Chile. She made it a point to assist her daughters in ways that would free them up to do those things she no longer could, splitting her time between Paysandu and Durazno. She called this her “helps ministry”. As of late, her ministry was mainly to those in the hospital surrounding her and her caregivers at home until the Lord ushered her to her heavenly home. She was loved and will be missed by many across the world who enjoyed her jovial and competitive spirit and were impacted by her passion for winning souls to Christ “staying focused” as Roy desired. Karen was preceded by her husband Roy D. Kuhns, her parents, Gordon and Eileen (Temple) Honeywell as well as her sisters, Sheila Basilisco and Sally Sailer. She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Rojas (Daniel), their sons, Josue, Marco and Tobias; Jo Anna Harmon (Paul), their daughters, Felicia and Sofia, and her son Roy Daniel Kuhns (Sabrina). Karen was also survived by her siblings Maxine Deriso, Daniel Honeywell and Phillip Honeywell; nieces and nephews.
