Dale J. Dupey

He was born on August 21, 1946 in Escanaba, son of Fern F. and Beverly J. (Walker) Dupey. Dale was raised in Escanaba and graduated from Holy Name High School in 1965. He also attended Bay College.

Dale served in the U.S. Army from September 1, 1966 until his honorable discharge on August 22, 1969. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. He worked as a mechanic for Roy Ness Contracting from 1973 until his retirement in 2009. Together with friends, “Camp Wampum” in McFarland was built in 1989 and later became Dale’s residence. An outdoor enthusiast, Dale always enjoyed target shooting and hunting, playing on his land; whether with the sawmill, the excavator to make roads around the property, or the many other “toys” he had. He was a very giving person and always helped others with his equipment and his ability to fix anything when needed, expecting nothing in return.

In his younger years, he enjoyed scuba diving, downhill skiing, boating and loved brook trout and fly fishing and would often travel to Canada for fishing excursions. Dale was a past member of the Great Lakes Sports and Recreation Club. Dale had a lifelong love for cars, especially corvettes. He was Catholic by faith.

Among survivors are his children, Jennifer (Paul) LaChance of Escanaba, Christofer (Kristy) Dupey of Green Bay, WI and Gregory Dupey of Escanaba; grandchildren, Hunter Gasman, Bon LaChance, Danielle Dupey and Eli Dupey; Eathan (Katelynn) Carabetta of Green Bay and Ryan Medina of Green Bay, great grandson, Braxton Carabetta; siblings, Karen (Jim) Dombrowski of Escanaba, Dennis (Debbie) Dupey of Arkansas, Brian (Diane) Dupey of Escanaba, Alan (Linda) Dupey of Oshkosh and Carol (Martin) Payne of Spring Lake, MI; brother in law, Don Behlendorf; special friends Joe Kobasic, George and Helen Netchey, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arlene Behlendorf.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 5, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. With current COVID restrictions limiting funeral home attendants to 25 people at one time, please limit the time of your visit so others may pay their condolences to Dale’s family. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church, 709 1st Ave S., Escanaba, with Rev. Timothy Ferguson officiating.

Burial, along with military rights, will be held this spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice in Dale’s name.
