ESCANABA — Rita B. King, 97, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 14, 2021, at Soderman Adult Foster Care in Gladstone.

She was born on March 29, 1923, the daughter of Albert and Bernadett DuBord.

On, March 21, 1943, Rita married Leonard King in Escanaba; he preceded her in death on June 7, 1981. Together they raised their four children in the Riverland area.

She was a hard worker and cherished the many years that she spent working at Buck Bee’s. Rita was a loving mother with a vibrant personality. She had a quick wit and the ability to making other people laugh.

Rita was known as “Sweet Meme” to her family and neighborhood.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeannie (Larry) Guenette, Sandra (Gary) Caplin and Linda (Otis) Williams; son, Joe (Patty) King; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her close brothers-in-law, James Utt and Donald Cousineau; and several nieces and nephews, who fondly remember her as their Aunt TaTa.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; siblings, Victor, Edward, Gladys, Helen and Lillian; and her loving son-in-law, Otis Williams.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mary and Steve Soderman and the staff of Soderman Adult Foster Care for the attentive love and care they provided Rita during her final years of life.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St. Escanaba. Private funeral services will be held with Rev. Timothy Ferguson officiating. Face masks and social distancing will be required.

Burial will take place in Escanaba Twp. Cemetery.
