Marilyn A. Anglim

GLADSTONE — Marilyn A. Anglim, age 85, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 25, 2021 at OSF Hospital in Escanaba.

Marilyn was born July 14, 1935, in Escanaba, the daughter of J. Walter and Geraldine (DeVet) VanDeWeghe. She was raised in Kipling and graduated from Gladstone High School Class of 1953. Marilyn attended Northern Michigan University where she achieved a State Limited Certification, Bachelor of Science degree, master’s degree in elementary education, and. She taught for many years in the Gladstone Area School District. More specific, she spent 2 years at Flat Rock Elementary, six years at All Saints School and 25 years at Jones Elementary in Gladstone. Marilyn retired in 1997.

Marilyn was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.

Teaching was Marilyn’s passion. She treasured every one of the students she had.

She was a strong believer that learning needs to be fun. She was the originator of “Camp Skeeter”. All of this led to her being a finalist for Michigan Teacher of the Year in 1988-89 and receiving the Daily Press Golden Apple Award in 1996.

Marilyn was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, M.E.A., N.E.A., Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel and Child’s Welfare. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing bingo, and cheering on the Packers.

Marilyn is survived by her loving family: children, Van (Debra) Anglim of Corpus Christi, Texas; Ann (Sara Griffin) Anglim of Fenton, Mich.; Paul Anglim of Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandchildren, Rachel, Emily, and James Anglim; Maxamilio and Maddie Mettler-Anglim.

She also leaves behind her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Adrian J. Anglim; sister, June Craft and daughters-in-law, Kelly Anglim, and Ellen Mettler.

Family will receive friends on Monday, February 1, from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 3 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Book Memorials for the Gladstone Library, 400 south 10th street, Gladstone, MI 49837.
