Edward ‘Ed’ J. Kleikamp
POWERS — Edward “Ed” J. Kleikamp, 96, Powers, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay, Wis. He was born on March 5, 1924, in Wilson, Mich., son of the late William and Mary (Marsicek) Kleikamp. On July 16, 1949, he married the former Joan Lyons, who passed in 1975.
Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He sailed from New York to Scotland on the Queen Mary and then served in five countries in Europe as a combat engineer, earning the Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, five Over Seas Bars, one Service Stripe and a Good Conduct Medal. Ed retired after 37 years from Mead Paper in 1986. He was very proud to be on the first U.P. Honor Flight and also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp.
He is survived by five children, Dan (Gay) Kleikamp, Jean Horgan, Steven Kleikamp, Sally (Tom) Pepin and Wayne (Kathy) Kleikamp; four siblings, Henry Kleikamp, Donald Kleikamp, Dorothy Arnold and Betty Berens; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; good friend, Leonard Luchay; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Mary Melton; son-in-law, William Horgan; five brothers, Harold, Arthur, Royal, Lawrence and William Kleikamp; and an infant sister, Agnes Kleikamp.
At this time, services will be private for the family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Neumann Church with Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring. There will be a public celebration of Edward’s life at a later date.
