Dwaine R. King

ESCANABA -- Dwaine R. King, 71, of Escanaba, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at U.P. Health System - Marquette.

He was born on March 9, 1949 in Escanaba, son of Fred J. and Agnes R. (Martin) King. Dwaine graduated from Escanaba High School in 1967 which was the first class to have all four years completed in the new high school. He also attended Bay de Noc Community College.

Dwaine served in the U.S. Army from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1970. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Start medal, Army Commendation Medal, Expert (Rifle) and Marksman.

Dwaine lived in Milwaukee for five years working at Ampco and Allen Bradley and in 1973 he returned to the U.P. Dwaine worked for Harnischfeger until their closure and then was employed with Chicago Northwestern Railroad. For 30 years, he worked with his brother for Kings Heating and Air Conditioning until his retirement in 2018.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed the time sitting in the backyard under the shade tree drinking a beer. Fishing, hunting, bon fires and gardening were also amongst the things that Dwaine loved to do.

Dwaine was an avid University of Michigan football, Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers and a Red Wing fan.

Among survivors include his children, Tina (Bart) Ziegler of Lake Geneva, WI, Daniel King of Gladstone and Philip King of Gladstone; granddaughter, Elizabeth Zinda of Lake Geneva, Wi; siblings, Bill (Yenna) King of Enid, OK, Roy (Barb) King of Escanaba and Diane Lay of Escanaba; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David (Jackie) King and Maurice King and sister, Fay (Bill) Flath.

A celebration of Dwaine's life will be held in the spring. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A message of condolence may be directed to the King family by visiting www.crawfordfuneralhomes.net
