Arnold A. Taylor
ESCANABA — Arnold A. Taylor, 96, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday morning, Dec. 2, 2020, at Bishop Noa Home.
He was born in Schaffer on Nov. 24, 1924, the son of Eli and Jennie (Tousignant) Taylor. Arnold graduated from Harris High School in 1942 and Northern Michigan University in 1950 with a bachelor degree in business administration.
Arnold served in the United States Navy From 1943 to 1946. During WWII, he was stationed in Sydney, Australia from September 1943 to June 1945, then served at the US Naval Base, Norfolk, Va. and lastly the USS Rodman from December 1945 to May 1946.
On Oct. 28, 1950, Arnold married the former Betty Beaumier at St. Joseph Church. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage. Betty preceded him in death in 2016.
Arnold started his working career as manager and then owner of Groos Auto Parts. After selling the store in 1971, he was an office manager for Schwalbach Kitchens and then manager of UP State Employees Credit Union until his retirement in May 1981.
He was a member of St. Anne’s Church and its Holy Name Society. Arnold was also a Eucharist Minister, lector and altar server for funerals and was the coordinator of Eucharist Ministers, lectors and home visitors. He was a charter member of St. Anne’s St. Vincent de Paul Conference, serving as president and treasurer, and served as a member of Bishop Noa Board of Directors for 25 years. His past memberships included the Elks, Highland Golf Club, Knights of Columbus and Serra Club.
Arnold always put God and his family first, finding true joy going to Mass, saying the Rosary, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and school programs. He and his wife, Betty, spent many years traveling and enjoying their 5th Wheeler. Arnie enjoyed golfing, playing cards and for over 50 years was a member of the St. Anne’s Poker Club. He was an avid sports fan and loved cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Tigers. In his later years, he never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune.
Arnold is survived by his children, Ann (Dale) Ford of Gladstone, David (Suzanne) Taylor of Gaylord and Mary (Todd) Hurley of Escanaba; grandchildren, Shawn (Chantel) Curtin, Reverend Ryan Ford, Hayley (Vijay) Nainani, Ben Taylor, and Catherine (Daniel) Jones; brother-in-law, Joe Grondine and sister-in-law, Pat Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and grandson John Taylor. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Royal and Ken Taylor, Elaine (Maurice) Gauthier and Olive (Melvin) Racicot; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lionel (Vi) Beaumier, Marcella Flagstad, Mary Lou Grondine and Dr. John (Mary Jane) Beaumier.
The family would like to thank the Bishop Noa Home administration and staff for their outstanding care. Dad always said how much he loved his caregivers and how well they took care of him. They were always included in his daily prayers.
A private service will be celebrated by the family at a future date.
Entombment will take place in Holy Cross Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop Noa Home, St. Vincent de Paul Society or St. Anne’s Church.
