Sally G. Rathbun

ESCANABA — Sally G. Rathbun, 78, of Escanaba, went home to be with the Lord early Monday morning, October 12, 2020 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids.

She was born on November 23, 1941 in Grand Rapids, daughter of William and Grace (Napier) Murray. Sally was raised in Grand Rapids and then graduated from Kellogg High School in Wyoming, graduating in 1958.

The former Sally Murray married Burton George Rathbun in 1976 in Escanaba. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2008.

Sally worked for the State of Michigan for many years beginning with MESC and then as the secretary for the warden at Kinross Correctional Facility, retiring in 1995.

She loved gardening, baking, and going to breakfast on Tuesdays at the Family Inn Restaurant. Sally was a member of the Ford River Community Chapel and she enjoyed her time attending services and having her friends from church over to play cards every Friday. Her friends from her church meant the world to her and she considered them part of her family.

Among survivors include her son, Troy (Heather) Rathbun of Escanaba; daughter, Vicki (Ron) Rintamaki of Boulder, Montana; grandchildren, Michelle Kleiman, Stephanie (William) Colletti, Alex (Brandy) Rintamaki and Nathan (Chelsea) Rintamaki; six great grandchildren, Brandon, Kelli, Kylar, Korbin, Kimber and Camron; brother, William (Cathy) Murgan; sister, Linda (Ron) Morrell and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Steve; daughter, Dorie; and brother David.

Services will be held at a later date when COVID restrictions are lifted.
