Kathleen Leone LaCosse

CORNELL — Kathleen Leone LaCosse, 85, of Cornell, Mich., died peacefully surrounded by her loving family Aug. 5, 2020.

Kathy was born to Lawrence and Estelle Lavelle Jan. 14, 1935 in Gladstone.

Kathy was a lifelong resident of Gladstone and graduated from Gladstone High School in 1953. After graduation she attended Cloverland Commercial College and Bay College. She was employed by Marble Arms Corporation in Gladstone, St. Francis Hospital and Bark River Culvert & Equipment Company, retiring in 1990. She married her high school sweetheart James LaCosse at All Saints Church on August 4th,1956. Together they raised five children and shared 64 years of wonderful memories. Kathy was a devoted parishioner of Holy Family in Flat Rock where she taught CCD for several years.

Kathy loved the outdoors all four seasons, enjoying camping, hiking, swimming, waterskiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Kathy also enjoyed cooking, picking blueberries on the shores of Lake Superior Pictured Rocks, and also spending family time at camp. Her greatest love, strongest devotion, and proudest accomplishment was being a mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother. She was undeniably successful in this and leaves a long legacy of love.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jim (Marge) Lavelle, Dave (Maryann), Lawrence (Irene) Lavelle, and sister Patricia (Richard) Moberg.

Survivors included her husband. James; children, Jim (Cathy) LaCosse of Gladstone, Mich., Tom (Lori) LaCosse of Glenwood, Colo., Kathy (Eric) Buckman of Gladstone, Mich., Lawrence LaCosse of Escanaba, Mich.,and Bob (Ann) LaCosse of Duluth, Minn.; grandchildren, Justin (Katie) LaCosse of Houghton, Mich., Candace LaCosse of Duluth, Minn., Elyse (Brandon) LaCosse-Smith, Carly (Mike) Gray of SanAntonio, Texas, Kevin (Beth) LaCosse of Omaha, Neb., Jacques (Megan) LaCosse, Michelle LaCosse, Boston, Mass., Anna Buckman, Colorado Springs, Colo., Isabelle LaCosse, Minneapolis, Minn., Jean Luc (Lily) Breckenridge, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Yalmer Primeau and AnnaBelle LaCosse of Houghton, Mich., Mason and Conner Gray of San Antonio, Texas. and many nieces and nephews.

The LaCosse family will receive friends and guests on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Following visiting hours, Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Church at noon, with Rev. Fr. Sebastian Chacko officiating. Kathy will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery.
