Marilyn Jean McDonough

ESCANABA — Marilyn Jean McDonough, 87, of Escanaba, passed away Friday morning, July 10, 2020 at home surrounded by family. She was born on June 30, 1933 on the Good Family Farm in Bark River, MI, the daughter of Chester and Helen (Sundquist) Good. Jean was raised in Bark River, was very active in the 4-H, and was a graduate of Bark River High School. The former Jean Good married Robert “Bob” McDonough on September 3, 1960 in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 45 years of marriage and raised four children, Kristine, John, Nancy, and Molly. While their children were young, Jean was a homemaker and cared for their children until they were grown. Jean went back to school to further her education at Bay de Noc Community College in their nursing program and graduated with her nursing degree in 1975. She was employed as a nurse for Dr. Rose at Doctor’s Park in Escanaba until Bob and Jean relocated to Fond du Lac, WI in the summer of 1981. Jean was then employed part-time at the Mount Calvary Seminary Clinic in Mount Calvary, WI and later worked at the Fond du Lac Family Healthcare Clinic. Bob and Jean moved back to Escanaba in 1994 and she worked part-time for U.P. Occupational Health until her retirement. In Jean’s younger years she was an avid bowler, enjoyed golfing, and playing bridge. She was a long-time member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Catholic Church, a member of the Escanaba Country Club, and also a member of the Elks Lodge Auxiliary #354.

Jean McDonough is survived by her children, Kristine (Rick) Anderson of Ford River, John (Mary) McDonough of Escanaba, Nancy (Mark) Miller of Bradenton, Fla., and Molly (Dave) Slayton of Kenosha, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Kaisa (Jeff) Ives, Kyle (Melanie) Anderson, Meghan (Aaron) Rozeboom, Samantha (Ben) Boudro, Shannon (Jon) Adams, Jacob Seeger, Kailee Seeger, and Jacob; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William (Joann) Good of Bark River, and Arthur (Dea) Good of Overland Park, Kan.; three sisters, Janet Hanson of Port Huron, Mich., Karen (Barry) Berquist of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Bonnie (Bob) Barr of Skandia, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Byron Lindstrom in 1958, and second husband, Robert “Bob” McDonough on January 15, 2006; her brother, James Good; and sisters, Doreen Bartozek, and Lois Anderson.

A family visitation was held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. A public Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Tim Ferguson officiating. A live broadcast of Jean’s Mass of Christian Burial can be viewed publicly at 12 p.m. Tuesday, on Anderson Funeral Home’s Facebook Page. Burial will take place in the Bark River Cemetery.
