Daniel E. Hedman

ESCANABA — Daniel E. Hedman, 78, of Escanaba, passed away Thursday evening, June 11, 2020, at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba. He was born on Nov. 2, 1941, in Virginia, Minn., the son of Carl and Eleanor (Wallace) Hedman. Daniel was raised and attended school in Virginia, Minn., and was a 1959 graduate of Virginia High School. Following graduation, he went on to attend the University of Minnesota – Duluth where he completed and received his bachelor of arts degree. He also received his bachelor of science degree from University of Wisconsin – Marinette. Daniel married the former Fern Leininger on March 11, 1969, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Duluth, Minn. Together, the couple shared 51 years of marriage and raised two children, Dawn and Tad. In 1971, Daniel began his career with the Escanaba Area Public Schools as an art teacher. He was proud to have taught in all 10 public schools before some began closing down. He retired in 2002 after 31 years of teaching. Daniel was a member for many years at Bethany Lutheran Church and later a member at Christ the King Lutheran Church, both in Escanaba. He greatly enjoyed taking his son fishing, watching TV, and having coffee after school at Big Boy.

Daniel E. Hedman is survived by his wife, Fern Hedman of Escanaba; children, Dawn (Rich) Osgood of St. Joseph, Mich., and Tad (Isabel Molina) Hedman of Fort Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Winnie Lackner of Virginia, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eleanor Hedman.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Daniel can be viewed publicly live at 12 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, on the Anderson Funeral Home’s Facebook page. A public visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery.
