Willard L. Young

GLADSTONE, Mich. — Willard L. Young, 90, of Gladstone, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, at his home in Gladstone.

Willard was born June 21, 1929, in Gladstone, Mich., the son of James G. and Jennie (Anderson) Young. He graduated from Gladstone High School in 1947. He was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served from 1951-1953. Willard was united in marriage to Mary A. Burton on June 19, 1954. Mary preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 2016.

In addition to being a member of the Gladstone American Legion, Willard was also a lifelong member of All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone, and a volunteer firefighter for 21 years.

Willard loved the outdoors and spending time at his camp with his family. He enjoyed his garden, which was admired by all.

Willard is survived by: three sons, Michael (Connie) Young of Gladstone, Mich., William “Sid” Young of Gladstone, Mich., and Lourn (Anita Kohnert) Young of Gladstone, Mich.; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Joshua Young, Kristi Duerson, and Tanya Amann.; eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, and loving wife, Willard is preceded in death by: sister, Patricia Syverson; one brother, Bob (Betty) Young.

Family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 14, from 2 until 4:15 p.m. at Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Gladstone American Legion Post 71 will present military honors at 4:15 p.m. with the U.P. Honor Guard. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 5:00 PM at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Willard will be laid to rest in Fernwood Cemetery in the spring. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Young family.
