Paul Charles Rohde Jr.
MANISTIQUE — Paul Charles Rohde Jr., 90, of Manistique, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, at his residence. Paul was born on Aug. 23, 1929, in Highland Park, Mich., the son of Paul and Nellie Rohde. He graduated from Detroit Area Schools and then went into the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Paul met and married the love of his life, Mildred Ann Patterson, on Aug. 27, 1953, in Detroit.
After being discharged from the Navy, Paul went to Ferris State University, where he took his pharmacist training, and graduated with Rho Chi honors. He then went to work downstate, and later moved to take a position at the McNab Pharmacy in Newberry. Paul then started working at the Putvin Health Mart in Manistique in 1974. On Oct. 1, 1978, Paul purchased the business where he worked until his retirement on Sept. 24, 2004.
Paul was a past member of the Manistique Merchants Association, the Newberry Jaycees, and he and Millie enjoyed wintering in Florida, and traveling in their RV. He enjoyed riding bike, taking walks, reading, watching TV, and playing a game of golf. Paul especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events and school programs. In the last year, he was discovering his culinary skills by being a sous-chef at his son’s house for their weekly get together.
Paul is survived by his son, Mark (Cathy) Rohde of Manistique; daughter, Ann (Mick) Manser of Damascus Ohio; six grandchildren, Jamie, Jeromy, Jordan, Mickey, Marissa, and Hailey; six great-grandchildren, Ellie, Evelyn, Emma, Owen, Kambria, and Kennadi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Millie; and daughter, Kris Longnecker.
Visitation for Paul Rohde will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 15, at Fausett Family Funeral Homes in Manistique with memorial services at 1 p.m. with Father Ben Paris officiating. Burial will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be sent to the Michigan Pharmacist Association, 408 Kalamazoo Plaza, Lansing, Mich. 48933.
