Robert W. Dahlin

GLADSTONE — Robert W. Dahlin, 87, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Oct. 29, 2019, at home with his son by his side. He was born on Oct. 17, 1932, in Escanaba, the son of Oscar Edwin and Elsie (Nelson) Dahlin. Robert was raised in Escanaba and was a 1951 graduate of Escanaba High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country for four years being deployed to Japan and the White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico during the Korean War. Robert W. Dahlin married the former Mary Margaret “Marge” Daoust in Nov. 22, 1956, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 1998. Together, the couple shared 41 years of marriage and raised two children, Greg and Susan. Robert was employed as a quality control foreman at Mead Paper Company for 37 years until his retirement. His faith was very important to him and was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Escanaba where he served as a lay reader and on the vestry. Robert was a proud veteran and was a member of the Escanaba American Legion. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, enjoyed driving – including cross country road trips, meeting friends for coffee and doughnuts every day (except on Sundays), and looked forward to reading the Daily Press each day as he enjoyed knowing what was going on throughout the community. He loved spending time with his family as they meant the world to him.
