Jack Lowell Roemer Sr.

MANISTIQUE — Lifelong Manistique, Mich., resident Jack Lowell Roemer Sr., 90, passed away at his residence on Nov. 8, 2019, under the care of Northwoods Memorial Homecare and Hospice with his wife, Ruth, and family at his side.

He was born on Feb. 19, 1929, in Manistique, to Carl and Josephine (Swanson) Roemer. He attended Manistique Area Schools and he enlisted into the United States Navy. He proudly served his country completing a tour in Okinawa, Japan.

On Aug. 18, 1951, Jack married the love of his life, the former Ruth Geraldine Bosanic, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and they later began a family and raised their five children in Manistique. He was the owner of Roemer Electric working as an electrical contractor. He also taught electricity at Bay College and Delta Schoolcraft ISD and served as the electrical inspector for Schoolcraft County.

Jack was an active member of the community belonging to St. Francis de Sales Parrish, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as a Grand Knight, as well as a member of the local VFW. He enjoyed spending time outside hunting and fishing. He also had a passion for wood working, playing cribbage, and music. But Jack loved nothing more than spending his time surrounded by his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; sons, Jack L. (Pat) Roemer of Traverse City, Mich., and Paul D. (Christa) Roemer of Manistique, Mich.; daughters, Jill (Rick) Farley of Austin, Texas, and Carla (Mike) Westervelt of Traverse City, Mich.; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Carl and Josephine, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl James Roemer and Joel Curtis Roemer; daughter, Cheryl; grandsons, William Roemer and Albert Roemer.

A visitation will be held for Jack at St. Francis de Sales church on Monday, Nov. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Ben Paris officiating. Burial will take place at the Hiawatha Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the St. Francis de Sales Building Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
