Robert A. Dahl

CORNELL — Robert A. Dahl, 84, of Cornell, passed away Friday morning, Aug. 30, 2019, at Christian Park Village in Escanaba. He was born on June 8, 1935, in Escanaba, the son of Alfred and Mildred (Milks) Dahl. Robert was raised in Escanaba and was a member of the Escanaba High School Graduating Class of 1955. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 8, 1956, and served his country until his was honorably discharged on May 1, 1958. Robert married the former Sharon L. Bintner on Jan. 25, 1964, in Cornell, Mich. Together, the couple shared 55 years of marriage and raised three children, Shelly, Michael, and Robert. He was employed as an engineer and fireman for Chicago and North Western Railroad Company for 37 years until his retirement. Robert was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE) for many years. He was an avid reader, enjoyed everything the outdoors had to offer — especially hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He found joy in sitting and listening to his collection of country music. Robert was a devoted family man and pet owner. He will be greatly missed by his dog, Boomer, and also all who were fortunate to know him.

Robert A. Dahl is survived by his wife, Sharon Dahl of Cornell; daughter, Shelly (Marty) Heikkinen of Cornell; son, Michael (Joan) Dahl of Cornell; grandsons, Robert Heikkinen of Flat Rock, and Todd Dahl of Cornell; granddaughter, Lacey Dahl of Cornell; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his son, Robert J. Dahl; brothers, Alfred and Rudolph; and sister, Thedous Eileen.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Robert will follow at 12 p.m. Friday in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dale Eklid officiating. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the services in the Anderson Funeral Home reception room. Burial and military honors by the Delta County Veterans Council will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
