Lillie Johnson

GLADSTONE — Lillie Johnson, 84, of 155 29th St., Gladstone, passed away Saturday evening, Aug. 17, 2019, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique. She was born July 14, 1935, in Stambaugh, Mich., the daughter of Joseph and Clara (White) Sutherland. Lillie graduated from Stambaugh High School and then moved to Chicago to work in the neonatal care unit in a Chicago hospital. She later moved to Gladstone. The former Lillie Sutherland married George Johnson on April 16, 1958, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1996. Together, the couple shared 37 years of marriage. For 30 years, Lillie and George fostered children in their home in Gladstone. Lillie was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, and liked watching western movies, Judge Judy, and the Packers lose on TV. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Lillie Johnson is survived by children, Rickey (Sherry) Johnson of Gladstone, Jean McMillian of Portland, Ore., and Daniel (Valerie) Johnson of Perkins; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Stanley Constantino of Rapid River and Richard Boden of Sheboygan, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lillie was preceded in death by daughters, Sally Constantino, Kelly Boden and Lily Johnson; five brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Lillie will follow at 4 p.m. in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jon Potes of Grace Church officiating. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the funeral services at Grace Church in Gladstone.

Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba.
