Richard P. ‘Dick’ Deneau

GLADSTONE, Mich. — Richard P. “Dick” Deneau, 73, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at UP Health Systems in Marquette.

Richard was born Jan. 6, 1946, the son of Ernest and Vivian (Ketcham) in Gladstone, Mich., where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Gladstone High School in 1966 and went to work for Mead Paper in 1969 until his retirement in 2005.

Richard met his soulmate Mary and married her on June 21, 1969. and just celebrated 50 years of marriage in June.

Richard was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 71 for 39 years, serving as commander for 10 years.

Richard loved being with his family and friends and spending time at camp the most especially during hunting season. He also enjoyed listening to music, playing guitar, and going camping.

Richard’s second favorite pastime was collecting military patches and insignia. He was a lifelong avid collector starting at 12 years old. He loved going to rummage sales, flea markets and looking on eBay where he would find many items to add to his collection.

In addition to his loving wife, Mary, Richard is survived by: two daughters, Becky (Sonny) Frappier of Gladstone, Mich., and Dawn Lynch of Escanaba, Mich.; two brothers, Jack (Marcy) Deneau of Marquette, Mich., and Jim Stewart of Marquette, Mich.; two sisters, Ellen “Babe” Stewart of Marquette, Mich., and Betty (Leo) Brunette of Gladstone, Mich.; four grandchildren, Josh, Tyler, Morgan, and Alex; three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Addelyn, and Awtumn; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his family pet, Bentley.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by: daughter, Amy Jo Deneau, and two infant sons, James and Scott.

Family will receive friends Friday, July 19, from 2 until 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow visiting hours at 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Gladstone American Legion. Richard will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
