Helene “Cookie” Torrence (Corcoran)

WAUPACA, Wis. — Helene ‘Cookie’ Torrence (Corcoran), 76, formerly of Escanaba, passed away April 12, 2019, in Waupaca, Wis.

Helene graduated from Escanaba Senior High School as valedictorian of her class and then the University of Michigan with honors.

Prior to her retirement she was employed in the telecommunications industry.

She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Kurkjian, New Port News, Va. and Suzie Yeats of Williamsburg, Va.; a step-son Jason Torrence, Arizona; a brother Wayne Corcoran, of Escanaba; a sister Carolyn (Larry) Jorgenson, Waupaca, Wis.; and uncle Leo Milkiewicz, Escanaba and several other close relatives and friends.

Helene was a kind and considerate person who always maintained a positive attitude in spite of her terminal illness. She had a special place in her heart for her dog “Freckles.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Torrence; parents Joseph and Wanda Corcoran, and a sister, Irene Kay Corcoran.

Interment of cremains will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Escanaba, at the convenience of the family this spring.
