Daniel J. Stacey

ESCANABA — Daniel J. Stacey, 93, of Escanaba, passed away early Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Dan was born in Escanaba on Feb. 15, 1926, son of Elmer and Rose (Vachon) Stacey. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1943.

He sailed with the Merchant Marines from 1943 to 1946 then joined the Army and served until his honorable discharge in December of 1947.

On June 19, 1954, Dan married Marilyn Harkins at St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba. Together they celebrated 64 years of marriage and raised six children.

After graduation from Marquette University, Dan taught school for four years in Stephenson. He joined the Michigan Department of Transportation in 1956 as a right of way buyer and retired as a district right of way agent in 1988.

He was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s Parish, American Right of Way Association, and Delta County Historical Society.

Among survivors are his wife, Marilyn; children, David (Dakota) of Arcata, Calif., John (Roberta) of Escanaba, Tom (Tracy) of San Diego, Calif., Carolyn of Escanaba and Madelyn of Carlsbad Calif.; grandchildren, Joanie, Danny, Spencer, Nicholas, Michael, Dylan and Sean; brother, Elmer of Kenosha, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; and siblings, Fern (Chet) Schram, Mae (Phil) Brazeau, Mildred (Jack) Treanor and Robert Stacey.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph and St. Patrick’s Church at 4 p.m. with Rev. Rick Courier officiating.

Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to U.P. Health System Hospice.
