Beatrice ‘Bea’ Elizabeth Berger

MANISTIQUE — Beatrice “Bea” Elizabeth Berger, 91, lifelong resident of Manistique, passed away peacefully in her home on April 8, 2019, surrounded by her children.

She was born on Oct. 13, 1927, the daughter of Hans and Josephine (Moran) Olson, in Manistique. She completed her schooling at Manistique Public Schools before marrying Richard “Dick” Berger on June 9, 1951. They raised their children in Manistique and Bea worked as a secretary for the public schools.

Bea was a 64-year member of her card club and an avid reader. Taking her an hour to get through the grocery store, she shared her warm smile and kind words with everyone she encountered.

A volunteer at the Imogene Herbert Historical Museum, Bea enjoyed visiting with tourists and locals alike, regaling them with a unique and personal take on many of the characters who shaped our community. She loved hosting her family events, and especially found great joy in spoiling her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Rick (Robin) Berger of Visalia, Calif.; daughters, JoAnne (Paul) Wood and Flo (Dave) Demers both of Manistique; grandchildren, Amanda, Grant, Susan, Dominic, Mary, George, Nikki, and Ben; and great-grandchildren, Parker, Olivia, Charlie, Gabe, Jack, Lex, Lilly, Brooklyn, George, Scarlett, Graham, Logan, Wyatt, Austin, Dakota, and Grace.

Her loving husband, Dick, precedes her in death, along with her sisters, Mae, Della, and Freda.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Monday, April 15, with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Fausett Family Funeral Homes in Manistique, Mich. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 16, at 12 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Ben Paris officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, or Manistique School and Public Library in Bea’s memory.
