Dr. Margaret Soderberg
ALTADENA, Calif. — Dr. Margaret Louise Soderberg passed away in her sleep on March 22, 2019, at her home in Altadena, Calif., after a long period of chronic health issues.
She was born in Escanaba on Feb. 5, 1948, the youngest child of Norma and Kurt Soderberg of Rapid River. During her high school years, she became an accomplished pianist and organist.
She graduated from Rapid River High School in 1966 as the valedictorian of her class. She undertook premedical studies at the University of Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1966.
She then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., for her internship at the L.A. County Hospital and stayed in the area for further training in pediatrics and allergy and immunology. She practiced allergy and immunology in Orange and Los Angeles counties until being incapacitated by illness in 2017. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
She is survived by her son, Eric Warner, of Maui, Hawaii; her daughter, Jenny (Shawn) Kortes of Huntington Beach, Calif.; grandson, Logan Gray; granddaughter, Charlie Kortes; brother, Dr. Milton (Bodi) Soderberg of Marquette; nieces, Christina Silver and Elizabeth Soderberg, and nephew, Dr. John Soderberg, and multiple cousins in the USA and Sweden.
Proceeding her in death were her parents, and infant older sister and a nephew.
Memorials may be addressed to Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River or the Rapid River Public Schools Scholarship Foundation.
