Dorothy M. (DeMenter) Day

ESCANABA, Mich. — Dorothy M. (DeMenter) Day, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018 following a long battle with dementia.

Dorothy was born July 20, 1930, in Escanaba, Mich., to the late Charles and Laura (Mercier) DeMenter. Following graduation, she worked for Sieberts Store and at the Rialto movie theater. That is where she met Wally Day. During his many visits to the movie theater to see her, she would give him free popcorn. They were united in marriage on Oct. 14, 1950 and just celebrated 68 years together. They were blessed with six children.

Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, music, and dancing. She also loved spending time with family. grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Both Dorothy and Wally volunteered at the Wells Senior Center for many years.

In addition to her loving husband, Wally Day, she is survived by: four sons, Michael Day of Green Bay, Wis., David (Sheri) Day of Green Bay, Wis., James (Judy) Day of Cottage Grove, Minn., Robert (Brenda) Day of Escanaba, Mich.; two daughters, Sharon (Dan) Krouth of New Franken, Wis., Mary Krouth of Hobart, Wis.; two brothers, Chuck (Wanda) DeMenter, Joe (Vicky) DeMenter; brother-in-law, Floyd Swift; one sister, Lottie Cole; sisters-in-law, Bertha Wurl, Shirley Trombley, Helen Day; grandchildren, Kristi (Scott) Schertz, Jessica (Francisco) Perez, Amy (Eric) Fleming, Laura (AJ) Daigle, Ashley (Brian) York, Cory (Missy) Day, Amanda (Andrew) Winters, Amber (Adam) Kantner, Missy (Alex) Falish, Kimberly (Budd Bergloff) Day, Matthew (Special Friend, Savanna George) Day, Kailey Day, and Amanda (Ethan) Marenger; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by: parents; grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Day; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Day; brothers-in-law, Don Cole, Keith Trombley, Jack Wurl, Lesley Day, Earl Day, and Melbourne Day; sisters-in-law, Ella (Val) Falkingham, Lois Swift, Ruby (Pat) Skeffington, Dorothy (Dick) Walling, Myrtle Kennedy, and Evelyn (Richard) Berkquist.

Family will receive friends Friday, December 21, 2018 from Noon until 2:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 21, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wells, Mich., with a luncheon to follow.
