Lester F. Johnson
ESCANABA — Lester F. Johnson, 76, of Escanaba, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wis. Lester was born in Allenville, Mich., on April 24, 1942, the son of the late James and Irene (Wiggins) Johnson. After graduating from high school in 1961, Lester joined the U.S.M.C., serving from 1961 to 1965. Following an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he married the former Carole Fisette, of Escanaba, in Redwood City, Calif. Together they made a home in Ford River, and later in Escanaba. Lester owned his own farm and logging business, and worked at Harnischfeger Corporation before driving truck until his retirement. Lester was an avid hunter, and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors.
Surviving Mr. Johnson is his wife of 52 years, Carole; two sons, Don Johnson (Loretta Guare) and Beau Johnson; and one daughter, Abby Johnson, all of Escanaba. Also surviving Lester are two grandchildren, Kaylee Johnson of Escanaba and Dylan Johnson of Wisconsin.
Lester was preceded in death by his daughter, Manthy Ann Johnson, on Oct. 21, 2018. Also preceding him in death were his parents and nine siblings.
In keeping with Lester’s wishes, there will be no public services. Buettgen Funeral Home of Schofield, Wis., is assisting the Johnson family with cremation.
