Kathryn Bernice Rocker

POWERS — Kathryn (Kakie) Rocker, 93, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 28, 2018, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

Born in Detroit, Jan. 18, 1925, to Morris and Bertha Brew, raised on a farm in Romeo, Mich. with her three sisters, Sally, Joann, and Suzan.

United in marriage with Carl Rocker on July 7, 1945, at Zion UCC, Mount Clemens, Mich. where they raised three children, Linda, Timothy, and Tamara.

Kathryn graduated from Romeo High School. After marriage she dedicated herself to raising her family. But she and her husband, Carl also stepped out to enjoy times with close friends for cards and good laughs. She canned everything from their garden and made their house a home. She was also an active member of Zion UCC Church, where her greatest love was being a member of the church choir. She was also actively involved in church’s Fidelis Club, serving meals for the Rotary Club, and fund raising for the church rummage sales, BBQ brunches and Christmas bazaars. Kathryn also served on the church council for many years. After her husband’s passing in 1982 she went to work as a patient sitter at St. Joseph Hospital in Mount Clemens and eventually took a job as a counselor on aging at Macomb County. Her greatest joy though was taking care of her grandchildren whenever she could.

In 2012 Kathryn was no longer able to reside in her own residence due to dementia. She then moved to Sunny Shores Foster Care Facility in Gladstone, along the shore of Lake Michigan, where she happily lived for two years. In 2014 Kathryn moved to Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

She is survived by her children, Linda Brown, Timothy (Coleen) Rocker and Tamara (David) Hamacher; grandchildren, James (Michelle) Brown, Nicholas, Christopher and Jacqueline Rocker, John and Garrett (Liana) Hamacher and two great grandchildren, Andrew and Grace Brown.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Rocker; granddaughter Katie Brown; son in law Dennis, and sisters Sally, Joann and Suzan.

A celebration of life memorial will be held at 1 p.m. (in state noon), Saturday Nov. 17, at Zion United Church of Christ, New Street, Mount Clemens with Pastor Scott Davis officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Church of Christ.
