Larry M. Valind

ESCANABA — Larry M. Valind, 76, of Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1942, in Escanaba, son of Albert J. and Myrtle D. (Veraghen) Valind. Larry graduated from Holy Name High School in 1960. He served in the Army from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1964.

Larry worked for Peninsula Beverage, Clean Towel Services (Means) and Mead Paper before his retirement.

He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and deer hunting. Larry was a member of the Elks Lodge 354, AmVets and St. Joseph’s Church.

Among survivors include his siblings, Audrey Shepeck of Escanaba, Mary Kay Hugo of Grand Blanc, Mich., Jeanne (Gary) Howard of Escanaba and Michael Valind of Escanaba; and 16 nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Myrtle Valind; sister, Luella (Pat) Walsh; and brother, Vern Valind.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 4, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church with Rev. Eric Olson officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Graveside services and military rites will take place on Friday, Oct. 5, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that masses be said at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church in Larry’s name.
