Cynthia J. Holmes

SKANDIA, Mich. — Cynthia Jane (Harbenski) Holmes went to Heaven after losing her two-year battle with cancer. On Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, Heaven gained another angel.

She was born Feb. 22, 1960, to Joseph and Etheleva Harbenski and was raised in Garden. She attended school and graduated from Big Bay de Noc in Garden in 1978. She attended Bay de Noc College for nursing, then attended UP Beauty Academy and was a graduate. Later, she attended NMU for nursing.

Cindy worked many years as a hairdresser, house cleaner and caregiver.

She loved to go camping, kayaking and taking photographs. She did all of this with her boyfriend, Ed Yohe of Marquette. Ed had said, “She never found a river, beaver dam or alligator that could stop her”.

Upon this day, Cindy was in her kayak going down the river with her dog, Tucker, in the bow. She went around the last bend and entered the Promised Land. She is now rejoicing with all her loved ones that went on before her. We look forward to seeing her again. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a loving, caring and giving person. “Life goes on, so should you don’t get the chance to relive yesterday, but you do get the chance to live today like it’s your last” — Cindy.

Cindy is survived by two sons, Travis (Lauren) Holmes and Dustin Holmes, both of Skandia; mother, Etheleva Harbenski of Garden; two brothers, Bruce Harbenski of Beaver Grove, Mich., and Steve (Jeri) Harbenski of Ontonagon, Mich.; granddaughters, Aryannah and Laylanah; and many aunts, uncles and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Zack Holmes; father, Joseph Harbenski; and brother, Doug Harbenski.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Life Church. A memorial service will be held in the church at 1 p.m. with Pastor Lew Pizzala officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the church.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. in the New Garden Cemetery in Garden. A luncheon will also be held following the burial at the Garden Fellowship Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the New Life Church, 143 Fisher Street, Marquette, MI 49855.
