Carol Jean Morrison

GARDEN CORNERS — Carol Jean Morrison, 80, of Garden Corners, Mich., died Sept. 21, 2018.

She was born Jan. 3, 1938, in Garden, the daughter of Wallace and June (Mayo) LaTulip. Carol was one of four children. She was raised in Garden, attended elementary school there, and was a graduate of Cooks High School.

In 1958, she married Milton Hazen, who died in a drowning accident in 1967. They had five children together. She married James Morrison, of Isabella in 1969, adding two more children to her family. Carol was a stay-at-home mom for over 20 years. In 1983, she began working at the State Savings Bank in Manistique. After working there for three years, she became a secretary at the Big Bay de Noc School, retiring in 1999.

Carol was very active in her community. She was a member of the Kate’s Bay Home Extension Club, secretary of the Big Bay de Noc School Board, a member of St. John the Baptist’s choir, secretary of St. John’s parish council and finance council, member of the first Garden Old Timer’s group, and member of the Garden Friendship Quilters.

Carol is survived by her husband Jim and their children, Laurie (Randy) VanRemortel, Ted (Caprice) Hazen, Greg Hazen, Julie (John) Peterson, Maxine (Terry) Hoover and Jeff (Angie) Morrison; siblings, John (Bea) LaTulip and Mary Ann (Richard) Olson. She is the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Family and friends are her greatest blessings, her proudest moments and her beautiful legacy.

In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Milton (Jay) Hazen, and brother, Dale LaTulip.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique, Mich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at St. John the Baptist Church in Garden, Mich., with Father Tim Ferguson officiating.

Burial will follow the mass at the New Garden Cemetery in Garden Township. A luncheon will be held at St. John the Baptist Parish Hall after the burial.

The family would like to thank the staff at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility for their care and kindness during the last weeks of Carol’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

The Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique is assisting the family with the arrangements.
