Scott Alan Anderson

GLADSTONE — Scott Alan Anderson, 33, passed away peacefully from complications of pneumonia on March 8, 2018 at his home in Gladstone.

Scott was born September 27, 1984 in Gladstone. He was the fourth child born to Robert “Bob” and Judy (Berg) Anderson. He attended Gladstone schools and graduated with honors in 2003.

Following high school, Scott continued his passion for learning and education going on to earn a degree from Northern Michigan University. He then moved to California where he worked on his graduate studies. Education and learning came naturally to Scott and he loved going to school. He often said he would be a student for a living if he could.

Following his time in California he returned to Gladstone where he started his career in a field he was passionate about, working in mental health and with the developmentally disabled, first with Beacon Specialized Living Services. He then advanced to work for Pathways as a recipient rights officer, where he investigated complaints of abuse and neglect. Most recently Scott was employed at the Department of Health and Human Services for the State of Michigan working with child protective services. Scott had a tremendous work ethic, which he learned at a young age helping his Grandma Carol and mom in the family catering business.

After returning from California, Scott met the love of his life, Dan Bjorkquist. With Scott’s talent for decorating and interior design, they remodeled and built their home together. Scott had so many talents and hobbies. He loved to cook and bake, and so enjoyed the many holiday meals he prepared for family and friends. He loved to grow flowers and gardening, spending free time in his greenhouse for hours at a time. He was an accomplished classical pianist, loved to paint and draw, and was recently working on writing a book. He enjoyed yoga, reading and spending time on the beach. He loved camping and he and Dan did so, often going to Fayette State Park which Scott called “Heaven on Earth.” He enjoyed hiking, biking and kayaking. Scott loved to travel, and had vacationed all over the world. In most recent years, he and Dan enjoyed their yearly visits to their condo in Delray Beach, Fla. He loved to be by the ocean, whether he was picking sharks teeth with Dan, or hunting for sea glass with his mom and dad, or enjoying the sound of the waves and the sunshine! Scott was a truly spiritual person.

Scott is survived by his loving parents, Robert “Bob” and Judy (Berg) Anderson; his partner, Dan Bjorkquist; his siblings, Robert “Bobby” Anderson, Sean Anderson, Jenny (Ryne) Rutherford; his maternal grandmother, Carol (Joe McGonagle) Berg; his nephews, Eric Anderson and Cypress Rutherford, and soon-to-be-born niece or nephew, baby Rutherford and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is also survived by his beloved “canine kids” Frankie and Sammy.

Scott was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Berg; paternal grandfather, Robert “Bob” Anderson, and his paternal grandmother, Jacqueline “Jackie” Nepper.

As per Scott’s wishes, there will be no formal services. The will be a celebration of life in the near future at the convenience of the family.
